Formal MotionPassed
"WHEREAS, the Town of View Royal has shown its commitment to the residents of Christie Point by requiring the developer to provide an unprecedented level of assistance to any displaced tenants, including the "grandfathering" of current rents for a minimum of 20%; AND WHEREAS, the Town recognizes that even with these mitigation requirements there will be a number of lower income residents negatively affected by the Christie Point redevelopment; AND WHEREAS, the Town currently owns and expects to acquire additional property that would be suitable for an affordable housing development, and will receive a $750,000 amenity grant from the developers of Christie Point; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town of View Royal use these resources and mandate the Mayor and staff to work with the Capital Regional District and other appropriate agencies to build or acquire affordable housing for at least forty additional families, giving priority to those displaced by either the Christie Point redevelopment and/or the redevelopment of the Thetis Lake Campground."
