Helmcken Road at Watkiss Way Intersection Protection Measures

Council tabled a decision to install a 'Calgary curb' safety measure for cyclists at a major intersection.

"While the curb itself is inexpensive ($1,000), Councillor Rogers argued its installation would trigger the permanent removal of a traffic lane, leading to significant congestion. Mayor Tobias argued that fixing the signal lights for pedestrian protection should be the higher priority. The item was tabled."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that consideration of the installation of a "quick building traffic calming curb" to protect northbound cyclists from intersection traffic within the Helmcken Road at Watkiss Way intersection be tabled."
