Non-core Projects - Protective Services (Fire Staffing)

"Fire Chief Hurst characterized the staffing request (N-085) as 'critical' due to losing paid-on-call members to career departments and new union requirements impacting staff shifts and service levels. He argued the minimum required ask was five FTEs over three years to maintain the composite department model. Despite the large cost, Council supported the request unanimously due to public safety concerns."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the proposed Fire Protection and Emergency Response non-core projects, including the planned hiring of Full-time fire personnel (N-085) over 2024-2026, be approved for inclusion in the 2024-2028 Financial Plan."
