West Shore RCMP Detachment Expansion - Municipal Consent for Bylaw Nos. 4692 and 4693

Council consented to the Capital Regional District (CRD) adopting bylaws to establish the West Shore RCMP Detachment Expansion Service and authorize the associated loan for project financing.

"Council acknowledged the project is necessary due to contractual obligations and overcrowding, noting delays have already cost millions. Council debated the timing of consent versus public engagement, with Councillor Lemon requesting a delay for a Town Hall. Staff advised that delaying consent would postpone funding, costing the project $200,000 per month. Council agreed to move forward, prioritizing project momentum, while committing to improve public information dissemination regarding View Royal's tax impact ($180 maximum per household per year)."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT Council consent to the Capital Regional District Board adopting Bylaw No. 4692 'West Shore RCMP Detachment Expansion Service Establishing Bylaw No. 1, 2025' and Bylaw No. 4693, 'West Shore RCMP Detachment Expansion Loan Authorization Bylaw No.1, 2025'."
