2022 Tax Rate Options

The Committee directed staff to prepare the 2022 tax rates bylaw based on a 5.5% municipal tax increase, adopting Scenario G, which raised the Recreation/Non-profit tax multiple (Class 8) to 6.0.

"The Committee reviewed six scenarios based on highly divergent assessment increases (Residential: +24%; Business: +6%). Discussion focused on ensuring fairness while setting tax rate multiples. Following the afternoon session, staff developed two additional scenarios (G and H) based on the approved 5.5% increase. The Committee ultimately selected Scenario G, which maintained the proportional tax contribution across property classes while increasing the Recreation/Non-Profit (Class 8) multiple to 6.0."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that a tax rates bylaw be prepared for 2022 based on a 5.5% tax increase by increasing each property class's total contribution by the same percentage, except for the tax rate multiple for the Recreation/Non-profit (Class 8) is to be set at 6.0."
