Council officially supported the current West Shore RCMP policing structure and raised concerns with the province regarding police reform consultation.
"Council expressed strong concern that the provincial report lacked input from local governments and failed to prioritize law and order, focusing predominantly on decolonization and systemic racism. Members reaffirmed strong support for the existing West Shore RCMP sub-regional policing model and mandated staff to write a letter advocating against mandated changes without prior local engagement."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the Town write to the Members of the Legislative Assembly that comprised the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act to express support for the West Shore RCMP and the sub-regional policing model at that detachment and to request that no changes be mandated to this policing model without prior engagement involving the local government participants; AND THAT a copy of the letter be sent to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, M. Farnworth. (COW-18-22)"
