Full RecordingEmail dated December 1, 2020 from C. Bremner, Administrative Assistant, West Shore Parks and Recreation, Re: COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant Funding Request
Council recommended providing $100,156 from the Casino Reserve (funded by the Safe Restart Grant) to the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society to facilitate the reopening of the pool facility, conditional on the agreement of the other owner municipalities.
"Councillor Mattson argued the request circumvented the proper WSPRS annual budgeting process. Mayor Screech defended the request as a legitimate, extraordinary COVID-related cost (due to lost revenue) and stressed the importance of reopening the pool, noting it was the only regional pool still closed. The motion was amended to ensure the funding was contingent on other owner municipalities also providing their requested shares."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society (WSPRS) COVID-19 Restart Grant Funding request be approved in the amount of $100,156 to be funded from the Casino reserve account to facilitate the reopening of the WSPRS pool facility in January 2021 subject to the other owners agreeing to provide their requested funding for this initiative."
