Solid Waste Collection Contract Renewal - Secondary Suites

A proposal to allow secondary suites to request and pay for their own garbage and recycling bins to reduce wildlife issues and overflow.

"Staff proposed a voluntary program where property owners with secondary suites could pay for additional bins. This aims to stop overflow that attracts wildlife. Council debated the administrative burden versus the benefit of reducing garbage bags left on streets. The program is planned to launch in 2028 to align with the next waste contract."
