Proposal For A New Park On Watkiss Way

In the summer of 2011,we noted a property for sale on Watkiss Way. One day, while discussing its availability, an epiphany struck: “What if the property were to become a park”.

We immediately contacted the real estate agent, and did a walk-about of the property shortly thereafter. Its beauty was readily observable, and, at that point, our vision was born: WATKISS WAY PARK.

We subsequently began a two-year long series of meetings to explain our idea; to obtain important feedback and to, hopefully, build support for the future park.

The response was near unanimous – and definite: “Watkiss Way Park is a great idea, and we support it wholeheartedly”.

The initial consultations recently completed, we turned our attention to the next phase. We began proposals to The District of Saanich and to The Township of View Royal. Since both municipalities would receive considerable benefit from the park, we thought it reasonable to submit a separate document to each council.

You will find attached the proposal to the Township of View Royal.

We hope that the township will come to share our vision for Watkiss Way Park. We understand that the ensuing process is likely to be slow, and to encounter a number of obstacles along the way. We believe, however, that with patience, commitment and, most importantly, persistence, our idea can succeed. As we stated on several occasion: “Where there’s a will, there must be a way.”

In response, one experienced professional said, “This is doable!”

So thank you very for your consideration of this proposal. At some future point, we would appreciate an opportunity to speak to council about our vision. It is indeed true that written words alone simply cannot express the sheer uniqueness of this very special property.

Yours,
