OCP TIMELINE

01 DECEMBER: ENGAGEMENT SUMMARIES & FEEDBACK REVIEW

The project team created a What We Heard Report (WWHR) for each engagement touchpoint since the summer, including the Vision survey, Western Gateway Corridor engagement, and the Policy survey, for presentation at the January 13, 2026 Committee of the Whole meeting.

02 JANUARY: IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY & REGIONAL CONTEXT STATEMENT

  • The project team presented the three WWHRs to the Committee of Whole.
  • The project team will begin drafting the Implementation Strategy and Regional Context Statement.

03 FEBRUARY: BYLAW DRAFTING

The project team will complete the first draft of the Official Community Plan (OCP) and prepare to launch a final round of public engagement.

04 MARCH: ENGAGEMENT

  • The project team will share the first draft of the OCP with the OCP Review Advisory Committee, Council, the public, First Nations, and stakeholders for feedback.
  • The project team will meet with the OCP Review Advisory Committee to review the major changes and next steps in the adoption process.

05 APRIL: INCORPROATE FEEDBACK

The project team will incorporate all feedback received from the final engagement touchpoint on the first draft of the OCP.

06 MAY: FINAL DRAFT

  • The project team will prepare a final draft of the OCP and present the draft to the Committee of the Whole.
  • The project team will review engagement to date, the major shifts and changes from the 2011 OCP, and steps in the bylaw adoption process.

07 JUNE: BYLAW READINGS & PUBLIC HEARING

First and second reading, and the public hearing may be scheduled for June. The public hearing will provide an opportunity for the public to speak and provide feedback on the bylaw, prior to consideration of adoption.

08 JULY: ADOPTION

Third reading of the bylaw and adoption can be considered in July, ahead of the summer break, and the municipal election in October.

09 AUGUST: DEVELOPMENT PERMIT AREA SCOPE

The project team will prepare a scope of work and terms of reference for the review and update of the OCPs Development Permit Areas.

10 SEPTEMBER: BEGIN DEVELOPMENT PERMIT AREA REVIEW

The project team will begin their research to inform updates to the Development Permit Area and design guidelines, expected to be completed in the winter of 2027.
