Applicant's Letter to Mayor and Council - Bernard Shane Slothouber

Letter from the property owner explaining the necessity of the height variance to harmonize the addition's roofline with the existing house.

Applicant: Bernard Shane SlothouberAddress: 309 View Royal Ave

Dear Honourable Mayor and Council Members,

I am applying for a development variance pertaining to my addition on the property of 309 View Royal Ave.

We met before when you approved my proposal for a second driveway to the same proposed addition.

Attached to this application you will see the building plans for the addition. When the designer drew the plans for the addition she based the building height off of our existing house. This was an incorrect assumption and when we put in for a building permit we realized that not only is our existing house over height, but the addition is as well.

The existing house height is 7.98m instead of the max height of 7.5m. Our proposed addition will be 7.93m.

We would like to keep the roof lines and pitches similar for the existing and proposed so the design looks harmonized and so the eaves of each building can come together perfectly.

We have discussed this with our neighbours and they do not have an issue with the proposed building being 0.43m over the height restriction. Especially because it will not be higher than the existing.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Bernard Shane Slothouber
