Dear Mayor and Council,
I recently saw this notice for a sidewalk project on the north side of Island Highway between Shoreline and the E&N Trail. I was hoping to receive some information about whether this improvement is part of the priority multi-use project outlined in View Royal’s Active Transportation Plan.
I recognize that sidewalk and pathway projects are costly, and I want to understand if there are multiple phases being implemented and whether this sidewalk improvement will have to be redone to fully realize the vision for a safe and comfortable multi-use connection between the E&N Trail and Admirals along Island Highway.
Many people including myself and my young children walk and bike along this route daily to get to the E&N Trail and do not feel safe biking adjacent to the high-speed, high-volume vehicle traffic on Island Highway. I am really looking forward to availability of a safer route that can be shared comfortably by cyclists and pedestrians.
