Dear Mayor and Council,
I am writing this email regarding the Erskine Lane bike lane. I saw an article noting the town is planning on putting bollards in the bike lane to prevent vehicle parking.
I live and own my unit at number - 14 Erskine Lane. Prior to living here I lived at 1900 Watkiss way. I ride a bicycle to and from work at CFB Esquimalt every day of the year unless it is icy. So I feel that I am in a good position to be commenting on bike Lanes on Erskine Lane.
I don't know if the bike lane is required given the amount of residents who live here (because of the town's approval to put five buildings on the small road that already had 80 odd townhouses) but I will say that Erskine Lane is the worst choice for a bike lane. In fact, this bike lane is pointless And should be parking.
Erskine has an enormous amount of residents now that the apartment buildings are renting. Those apartment building tenants and guests don't have enough parking (And a conversation with them won't change that lack of infrastructure} A lot of them park on same road where residents of the townhouse complex used to park an extra vehicle or have guests park. Erskine is also a very steep road to go up to Watkiss from the galloping Goose. Very few people would choose to go up Erskine on a bike, When Talcott court is just a little bit further down and is wider and less steep. Speaking of which, Talcott has not nearly the level of residents that Erskine has yet the sides of that road are packed with vehicles, some that appear to be derelict. It is unreasonable for the town not to allow residents to have this stretch of parking on Erskine given the amount of residents that the town has approved to live here. The bike lane that currently exists doesn't even go all the way down to the small walking path that leads you to the galloping Goose trail, it ends well before that and it is unidirectional. There is no opposing bike lane that leads you down to the trail. What a pointless bike Lane.
Please stop the silly plan with the bollards. Change the bike lane to parking and if the town requires a bike lane move it to Talcott.
