To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing as a resident of the area surrounding Erskine Lane to express concern regarding the recent bike lane installation that replaced street parking along the roadway.
The loss of available street parking has created a significant hardship for residents and visitors, especially considering the already limited parking capacity at both the Blueprint developments, and the new building located at 7 Erskine Lane. These buildings appear to have insufficient parking for the number of tenants and guests they serve, and the removal of street parking has only intensified the issue.
Many residents now face constant stress regarding parking availability. Visitors and family members are often discouraged from coming because there is simply nowhere reliable to park. It has become frustrating to host friends or family knowing they may need to search extensively for parking or risk receiving tickets. Additionally, tenants live with ongoing concern that their assigned parking arrangements could change or be reclaimed by building management with little recourse.
I also question whether the bike lane is being used enough to justify the loss of much needed parking. I walk my dog multiple times every day and regularly cross the street to access the Galloping Goose trail. During these walks, I frequently see cyclists using the Galloping Goose, which already serves as a well established and heavily used cycling route nearby. In contrast, I have personally observed very few cyclists using the new bike lane along Erskine Lane itself.
While I support safe cycling infrastructure, it is important that transportation planning reflects actual usage patterns and balances the needs of all residents. In this case, the removal of valuable street parking appears to have negatively impacted the surrounding community far more than the bike lane has benefited it.
I respectfully ask the Town of View Royal to reconsider the current parking restrictions along Erskine Lane and evaluate whether some street parking can be restored to better support residents, tenants, and visitors in the area.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Melissa West
