Subject: Regional Growth Strategy and the OCP
Dear Town of View Royal,
As the Town of View Royal has declared a Climate Emergency and climate action was to be embedded in the Strategic Plan as a priority, I want to make sure that is reflected in the upcoming OCP review as well.
Back in 2011, hardly anyone spoke about climate change. With the raging fires in Australia and our own huge forest fires over the past few years, climate change cannot be ignored. The CRD SLR report should be coming out soon too. All these things need to be seriously addressed as expensive and as daunting a task as it is. The costs of not taking action on this now will only compound. We need to see specific, concrete, measurable actions and definitive timelines in both our Strategic Plan and our OCP. We also need adequate monies put aside for mitigation and adaptation.
44% of GHG emissions comes from municipalities. We can make a huge dint in reducing GHG emissions and do our part in leaving a safe and liveable planet for our children and grandchildren.
The OCP needs to be updated to reflect our very real Climate Emergency.
Respectfully yours,
Jane Devonshire
