Letter Re: CETA (European Free Trade Agreement)

March 5, 2013Pages 31–321 section

Correspondence from Janet Warren regarding the potential impacts of the CETA agreement on municipal water sovereignty.

2 APPROVAL OF AGENDA
February 26, 2013Janet WarrenUrges Council to opt out of CETA to preserve water rightsReference to Nelson, BC passing a motion for exemption from the trade deal

Feb. 26, 2013 Mayor Hill and Council Town of View Royal 45 View Royal Ave. Victoria, B. C.

Attached is information on municipalities opting out of CETA (European Free Trade Agreement) as many of B.C. municipalities have done in order to preserve our water for the people of this province.

Under CETA, European countries can ask for and receive any amount of water they want, and if we say no, we will violate the agreement and be subject to fines and sanctions, even if our water supply is low and we need it for our citizens.

Please look into this and follow the lead of the other local Municipalities that have already done so.

Sincerely, Janet Warren
