RE: IEOA TRUCK LIGHT CONVOY AND FOOD DRIVE - December 7, 2013
The Island Equipment Owners Association (IEOA) would like to take this opportunity to again thank View Royal, and the West Shore RCMP, for their continued support of our IEOA Truck Light Convoy and Food Drive. Every year this parade grows and has become one of the major Christmas events in Victoria and the West Shore communities. Over the last fourteen years we have collected approximately 124,000 lbs of food for distribution to local food banks.
The West Shore Service Clubs Christmas Hamper Fund Society (Goldstream Food Bank) is one of the main beneficiaries of this event. Every year all the food donations that are collected at Western Speedway and by the Colwood, View Royal and Langford Fire Departments the evening of the event are delivered to the Goldstream Food Bank. In addition food donations that are collected at our pre-event locations in the West Shore (Serious Coffee, Tim Horton's, Rona Home & Garden, View Royal Casino, Kal Tire) are also delivered to the food bank. In 2012 a total of 3,500 + lbs of food from the Truck Light Convoy was delivered to the Goldstream Food Bank.
The 15th IEOA Truck Light Convoy & Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2013. For the last eleven years the Victoria Police, Oak Bay Police, Saanich Police and the West Shore RCMP have assisted us with policing, which has allowed the trucks to travel as a convoy and arrive at Western Speedway as a group. To date policing has not yet been confirmed by the City of Victoria. We are optimistic though that we will receive approval for a full police escort for our event.
The Truck Light Convoy starts at Ogden Point at approximately 5:45 PM. The trucks will arrive in the West Shore at approximately 7:30 PM and roll into Western Speedway around 8:15 PM. The public is again being invited to Western Speedway for the conclusion of the event. Admission is by nonperishable food item or cash donation. Coffee, hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available, by donation, for the public.
In the past fourteen years this charitable event has experienced tremendous growth and success. The IEOA is extremely proud of the role we, and our event partners, have played in helping the less fortunate in our community.
