Town of View Royal Bylaw No. 901: Oath of Office Bylaw

BYLAW NO. 901

A BYLAW TO ESTABLISH THE OATH OR SOLEMN AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE FOR MAYOR AND COUNCIL

The Council of the Town of View Royal, in open meeting assembled, enacts as follows:

1. Schedule "A" is hereby adopted as the oath of office for the Mayor and for Councillors.

2. This Bylaw may be cited for all purposes as "Oath of Office Bylaw No. 901, 2014".

3. Oath of Office Bylaw No. 807, 2011 is hereby repealed.

SCHEDULE "A"

OATH OF OFFICE

I, [full name of Mayor/Councillor], do [swear/solemnly affirm] that as [Mayor/Councillor] for the Town of View Royal that I will:

a) Perform the duties of the office of [Mayor/Councillor] faithfully and with integrity and will not allow any private interest to influence my conduct in public matters;

b) Abide by the Provincial statutes, including but not limited to those related to elections, conflict of interest, and confidentiality; and the municipal bylaws and policies that govern the Town; and will promote openness, accountability, and responsible leadership;

c) Provide stewardship of the public assets through the development and evaluation of the Town’s policies and programs; and

d) Always consider the well-being and interests of the community as a whole leading the development of a safe, vibrant, and sustainable Town.
