Subject: Re proposed council increase from 4 to 6

Dear Mayor and council,

New information has come to light since my previous letter on this subject, I hope you will permit a second request.

First up, staff recently noted our tech badly needs a upgrade:

“The updated Information Technology Strategic Plan contains budgetary implications that will be reflected in the draft 2022-2026 Financial Plan to be considered at budget workshops in February 2022. This report provides background and context for budget requests relating to information technology operational, non-core or capital project budget requests included in the draft financial plan.”

(as someone who has frequently searched the municipal site for information, I support this request)

Secondly, the province has announced a downloading of 911 dispatching costs:

“While this arrangement remains in effect for many regions of B.C., it expires on April 1, 2022 for the South Vancouver Island dispatch region,”

And last, but not least, on Dec 14, 2021, Mr D Wilson of View Royal avenue, presented details concerning potentially elevated VR growth estimates to VR Committee of the Whole.

Foundational numbers used for our OCP update and future planning considerations deserve to be clarified before we base critical decisions on them.

According to Ryan Painter, our current council approved 1000 new units in 2021.

I respectfully remain unconvinced we need more councillors, but suggest we add the proposal to the fall election ballot, and appeal to all of our interested voters for input.

Kind regards,
Linda Jeaurond
