Subject: Regarding council size bylaw
Dear Mayor and council,
I have read the FAQ but was unable to attend the open house due to the power outages and storm last night.
I am writing to plead with you to prioritize climate change over business norms, please hire a climate change coordinator to help our elected officials cope with the unprecedented challenges ahead.
Since June of this year we have experienced the most deadly heatwave in Canadian history, widespread profoundly disruptive wildfires, and now extensive flooding causing major highways and train lines to close.
These extreme weather patterns reinforce the significance of our declared climate emergency, and confirm these are not normal times.
Our municipal hall is relatively small, an increase in councillors could result in a need to accommodate additional support staff, pushing the possibility a climate change coordinator even further into our unsure future.
I respectfully suggest you move this council bylaw question to a referendum and allow voters to consider the financial and climate change ramifications when voting for council.
Sincerely,
linda jeaurond
