Resident letter from November 2021 opposing the increase and chamber open houses.

10.b Consideration of Increase to Council Size

I am not in favour of an increase in Council size. As I am not comfortable in a crowd in enclosed spaces during this Covid pandemic, I will not be attending the Open House but I wish to express my opinion.

The phrase “increased diversity of council and with it the opportunities for broader representation, accessibility, viewpoints, and skillsets.” seems to me to be bureaucratic double speak to justify an unnecessary expense. Victoria and Saanich have nine councilors (one council member for approximately 10,000 residents) and that seems sufficient for them. The region has 13 municipalities and the CRD and the associated councils and staff, so it seems we are already over governed in Greater Victoria.

I am satisfied that the current council has kept the Town safe, secure and reasonably well run for the benefit of all homeowners and other residents. Thank you! But we don’t need more councilors.
