Opposition to zoning amendments at 10 Erskine Lane based on emergency evacuation concerns.

We are strongly opposed to the proposed amendment to zoning at #10 Erskine Lane. The excessive level of development that is already proposed for this dead-end street of Erskine Lane is a situation that View Royal should be taking action to minimize to the greatest degree possible. While the residents of 14 Erskine Lane may not be able to prevent construction on # 10 and # 8, we can hopefully minimize any further plans city council may have to increase, yet again, the potential for future residents to live on this dead-end lane. Has consideration been given to opening up the bottom of Erskine Lane to Hospital Way? This would allow residents of Erskine Lane a secondary escape route in the unforeseen event of an emergency evacuation. Additionally, this secondary route would provide a much needed secondary access to/from Erskine Lane to Watkiss Way. The plan for apartments and condos currently in place for Erskine Lane would increase the population on this dead-end lane to a potential of more than 600 households using it. We cannot imagine the outcome should an emergency evacuation scenario be required.
