Connecting Communities Through Hands-on Conservation

Environmental and human health depends on our connection to community and to nature. This has never been clearer than during this pandemic. By giving people, particularly youth, the opportunity to engage in outdoor environmental action projects we impact them by prioritizing their health and well-being, promote lifelong environmental stewardship and enable them to take care of each other and the places they live.

2021 Lower Mainland & Greater Victoria Green Teams Impacts

  • Engaged 1,450 community members (800 of whom were youth) who contributed 3,222 hrs
  • Ran 48 activities in 20 ecosystems
  • Removed 405 cubic metres of invasive plants (equivalent to 2,530 bathtubs!)
  • Planted 545 native trees and shrubs
  • Engaged 4 elementary, 2 middle and 10 secondary schools
  • Worked with 20 partners (gov't, non-profit, land trust and educational Institution)
  • Raised environmental awareness to 500,000+ people through media coverage (30 times!)

Enabled 1,450 community members, mostly youth, to:

  • Develop a sense of belonging to community and place
  • Improve their mental and physical health
  • Connect to nature, which leads to environmentally responsible behaviour
  • Learn about environmental actions they can take
  • Learn how to work with others
  • Increase their confidence and resilience
