CONSIDERATION OF LATE 2025 GRANT IN AID REQUEST

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Council consider the 2025 grant-in-aid application from Construction Foundation of BC, in an amount to be determined by Council, in accordance with Policy 1600-012 – Grants in Aid.

ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:

  1. THAT Council approve the 2025 grant in aid for the requested amount ($5,000), in accordance with Policy 1600-012 – Grants in Aid.
  2. Do not provide any Grant in Aid to the applicant.

PURPOSE:

To consider the application for 2025 Grant in Aid from the Construction Foundation of BC.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Construction Foundation of BC has requested $5,000 to assist with construction costs for The Forge, a mental health and addiction wellness centre being constructed in Langford with completion by July 2026. The centre will offer free, low-barrier services tailored to tradespeople, including counselling, peer support, and recovery coaching. It provides direct and indirect benefits to View Royal by offering scholarships, engaging in workforce development training, and providing opportunities for career advancement.

There is $38,123 remaining in the 2025 Grant in Aid budget.

BACKGROUND:

Each year, Council considers approving grants in aid to assist not-for-profit societies and other non-profit and community organizations in achieving their objectives to benefit and provide services to View Royal residents. There is no requirement for the Committee or Council to provide grants. The awarding of grants is solely at Council’s discretion.

The Grants in Aid policy provides guidance for the approval and suggests that a maximum amount equal to 5% of View Royal’s share of the prior year’s funding received from Casino revenue be allocated to grants in aid. Actual 2024 Casino revenue was $1,879,300, so the 2025 grants in aid budget is a maximum of $93,965.
