Details of Your Organization's Grant Request
Nature and goals of the project, program or event: The FORGE is an initiative developed to address the skilled trades' mental health crisis. With the input of tradespeople with lived experience, we are developing supports that foster trust, reduce stigma, and connect workers to resources that will support their pathway to wellness. With the purchase of a once notorious biker clubhouse in Langford, we are transforming it into something entirely different - a safe place for healing, connection, and recovery. The FORGE is all about building bridges, not only between care programs, but between people and possibilities.
Summary of direct and indirect benefits to the Town of View Royal: The FORGE, a mental health and addiction wellness centre based in Langford, will benefit the View Royal community both directly and indirectly. By offering free, low-barrier services tailored to tradespeople, including counselling, peer support, and recovery coaching—it provides vital resources to View Royal residents working in the trades. Families also benefit from improved mental health and stability at home. Indirectly, The FORGE contributes to regional wellbeing by reducing strain on emergency services supporting workforce stability, and helping shift the culture around mental health and addiction. Its presence reduces stigma, and fosters community resilience. As a peer-led initiative, it creates a safe, non-judgmental space that can serve as a model for other communities. With many tradespeople living, working, or commuting through View Royal, The FORGE's impact will be felt well beyond Langford—improving lives, strengthening families, and creating healthier workplaces across the region.
