Motion Text: Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid in Gaza
The full text of the proposed motion regarding the conflict in Gaza, detailing humanitarian concerns.
Whereas the rules of war as set out in the Geneva Convention require that humanitarian rights be protected in armed conflict, that civilians not be targets of attack, and that medical and humanitarian aid agencies be able to safely deliver and administer aid;
And whereas of the more than 63,000 people reported killed in the Gaza war the majority are civilians, including hundreds of aid workers, health care workers, and journalists;
And whereas a UN Special Committee found starvation is being used as a weapon of war and the people of Gaza are in famine;
Therefore, the Town of View Royal calls on the Canadian government to take a strong stand on the international stage and call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, embargo arms to and from Israel, and demand an assured and secure humanitarian corridor to enable the delivery of food and essential aid to the Palestinian people.
