New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community

Update for Women’s Program: March 19, 2024

Program Updates:

  • The Women’s Program will be a based on the Therapeutic Recovery Community Model, which is what our men’s program is based upon. This is a very structured environment where the residents live and work within a community context, it has proven to be a highly successful model for recovery.
  • Like our men’s program the women’s program is designed to be a long-term treatment program and will run 9 to 24 months with the ability to have up to 20 women at once
  • Staffing will include a variety of support staff, medical staff, counselling staff and leadership staff. We have designed it to be very similar to our men’s programing, but it will have a few extra supports such as Family Counselling and Recovery Coaching
  • The women’s program will be completely separate from the men’s program including separate staffing and daily programing.
  • It will be a licensed program through Island Health, which is reflective of the structure and intensity of the program, the men’s program is also licensed.

Building and Renovation Updates:

  • The architect, Don Brown, has been identified, and he has contracted with the necessary sub-consultants needed for the project (i.e. electrical engineer, mechanical engineer etc.) – he is also the same architect who did the renovation of the men’s building 7 years ago, so knows the building well.
  • The Contractor, Verity Construction, has completed an RFP process to identify the sub-contractors needed throughout the project.
  • The finalized drawings are just being completed and will then go to B.C. Housing – who own the building - for review and sign off, then go to View Royal with the building permit applications.
  • Demolition is expected to begin very soon with construction/rebuild immediately after.
  • It is hoped that the renovation work can be completed by late summer/ early Fall.
  • We have attached a concept drawing for you to help visualize what the site will look like
