Dear Mayor Tobias and Council,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the increasing traffic speeds on Palliser Avenue, particularly during daycare drop-off and pick-up times. As a resident of View Royal and a parent to a young child, I feel compelled to bring this matter to your attention before a preventable tragedy occurs.
In recent months, my neighbors and I have noticed a troubling pattern—drivers rushing down our street, seemingly in a hurry after dropping off their children. The excessive speed at which they travel creates a significant danger for pedestrians, especially the many young children who live and play in our neighborhood. Our front yards no longer feel like safe spaces, and I worry every time my child steps outside.
We love our community and appreciate the efforts the municipality has made to ensure its safety and livability. However, I urge you and the Council to consider implementing traffic calming measures on Palliser Avenue. Speed bumps, additional signage, or other traffic management solutions could make a significant difference in slowing vehicles and protecting our most vulnerable residents.
The safety of our children should never be an afterthought. Please, let’s act now before we find ourselves mourning an avoidable accident. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this issue further and explore possible solutions with you and your team.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I trust that you share our commitment to making View Royal a safer place for all families.
Sincerely,
Tyler Withrow View Royal Resident
