By way of this letter I am applying to be included on the agenda of View Royal’s Council meeting on March 20, 2012.

I propose to make an oral presentation to View Royal Council regarding the Capital Regional District (CRD)’s process to update the Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) bylaw into Regional Sustainability Strategy (RSS) bylaw. The CRD has approved the direction of the RSS bylaw, and is currently consulting member municipalities. Public consultation will follow later this year.

I will be presenting on behalf of the Environmental Law Centre’s client, the Dogwood Initiative, and introducing to council a White Paper titled “Sustainability in the Capital Regional District: Sustainable Systems and their Implementation Through the Regional Sustainability Strategy” that provides comprehensive recommendations for the RSS.

In order to inform the municipal consultation process, I will be presenting key recommendations within the five topic areas of the White Paper, which are: a resilient community, a sustainable food system, ecological health, a sustainable regional resource system, and a sustainable transportation system.
