Email regarding CRD Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan

From: Sue Brown Sent: August-15-12 9:56 PM To: Mayor And Council Email Subject: CRD Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan

August 15, 2012

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am speaking in favour of the CRD Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan. Victoria can become a leader in carbon reduction and number of commuters cycling to work if we follow initiatives outlined in the plan. Riding a bicycle produces no noise pollution, no smog-forming pollutants, and no greenhouse gas emissions. Increasing cycling is an important element to any vehicle emissions-reduction strategy.

There is safety in numbers and the more cyclists on the road, the safer it will be, leading to more cyclists on the road and so on and so on. Traffic calming along neighbourhood bike routes makes streets safer for everyone with particular benefit to seniors children, and people with disabilities.

It makes economic sense as the green attitude and infrastructure of Victoria will attract progressive modern businesses such as in the tech, arts, and design field etc. More cycling will put more money in citizens pockets from gasoline savings to spend in the local economy

So lets get behind the plan.

Sincerely yours,

Sue Brown

Victoria BC

Cheers, Sue
