The Council adopted several recommendations from previous Committee of the Whole meetings, approving funding for additional Building Department staff ($40,000) and directing staff on Council priorities. Two major development applications moved forward: a 35-lot subdivision at 2420 Chilco Road, which received its Environmental Development Permit and third reading of the zoning bylaw; and the proposed 27-unit condominium at 8-10 Erskine Lane, which received first and second readings of the OCP and Zoning bylaws, and scheduling of a public hearing. Council also supported a resolution concerning employment of persons with disabilities and deferred discussion on carbon tax revenue funding.
Key Decisions
- Authorize the issuance of the Environmental Development Permit for the 2420 Chilco Road subdivision, subject to environmental and engineering controls.
- Direct staff to incorporate green building standards and other climate change requirements into future development permit application processes.
- Council approved $40,000 to hire additional staff for the Building Department in 2008.
- Staff were directed to cost out the items on the Council Priorities Outline and suggest funding sources.
- Council decided to consider the wildfire protection recommendations and seek feedback from the CRD and adjacent municipalities (Langford, Saanich).
