Attention: Chairman, Strata VIS6081

Thank you for your correspondence dated September 19, 2021 requesting the Town consider the installation of a small playground for children in your neighbourhood. As you are aware, your letter was placed on the October 5, 2021 Council meeting agenda.

At this meeting, Council discussed your letter at length and noted that historically residents in the area have requested additional parking where you have suggested locating playground equipment. Placing playground equipment in this location would eliminate the potential for parking in the future.

Council also stated some hesitancy to fund this type of initiative at this time given that some of the current park projects listed in the Five-Year Financial Plan – and identified in the Parks Master Plan – have been deferred due to funding challenges.

Recognizing that emergent issues do arise however, Council requested that you engage with other residents in the area, namely those in the other Nursery Hill area stratas east of Six Mile Road to determine what, if any, amenity may be desired for this small strip of non-treed land. For example, is a small playground the preferred use or is there still a strong desire for additional parking or perhaps a small off-leash dog area or another use altogether or even to leave it in its current undeveloped state?

Council also discussed the opportunity for cost-sharing the desired amenity feature, if any, with the stratas in the area which could serve to advance project timelines.

Please find attached our application with a request to approve and develop a small playground for our kids in our community. Presently this space is not properly utilized. It will help our community devolvement and specially our kids to play within our neighborhood.
