Meeting Overview
At the May 7, 2019, View Royal Council meeting, the Council reviewed and approved the 2018 audited financial statements, presented by Grant Thornton LLP. A key focus was the results of the Community Satisfaction and Engagement Survey, which indicated strong satisfaction levels while identifying areas for improved communication. Council committed $2,000 for carbon offsets to maintain carbon neutrality for the 2018 reporting year and discussed regional initiatives including support for a CRD foodlands trust, a request for provincial funding for the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre, and potential transit expansions. Administrative actions included appointing Councillor Mattson to the Colquitz/Gorge Watershed initiative and adopting several bylaws related to tax rates, garbage fees, and parking reserves.
Key Decisions
- THAT the 2018 audited financial statements be approved.
- THAT NRG Research's Final Reports for the telephone and open link on-line community satisfaction and engagement surveys be received.
- THAT up to $2,000 in carbon offsets be purchased from the Quadra Island Forestland Conservation Project by June 1, 2019 so that the Town can be officially carbon neutral in operations for the 2018 reporting year.
- THAT the Mayor write to BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission noting that the Town supports all measures to improve transit service in the region and the Town looks forward to hearing discussions on how this can be accomplished; AND FURTHER THAT BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission investigate a business case on how to improve ridership.
- THAT, in response to the Capital Regional District’s (CRD) request, the Town indicate its support for the CRD’s operation of a foodlands trust and willingness to participate in funding the CRD’s operation of a foodlands trust.
