a) T. Clarmont, Victoria Urban Reconciliation Dialogue, Re: Victoria Urban Reconciliation Dialogue

Ms. Clarmont spoke to Council regarding the Victoria Urban Reconciliation Dialogue (VURD), noting the VURD Steering Committee seeks to work with the region’s demographically diverse community to examine the meaning and impact of reconciliation for the Victoria region from an urban Indigenous context. The three key areas of focus include supporting the urban Indigenous voice, enabling community engagement, and generating ideas for tangible actions. The Steering Committee is working toward a blueprint for reconciliation and will present a draft at the 2020 Advisory Panel Gathering in February 2020. Ms. Clarmont stated that the VURD mandate originates from the Province and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.

Council and Ms. Clarmont discussed the extent of local First Nations’ and municipal involvement into the blueprint for reconciliation.

b) R. Baker, Volunteer View Royal, Re: Summary of 2019 Canada Day

R. Baker provided a summary of the successful 2019 View Royal Canada Day event held at Craigflower Manor and plans for the 2020 event.

Council thanked R. and J. Baker as well as the other Volunteer View Royal members that have organized this community celebration for the third year in a row.

C-127-19 THAT the award of contract for Information Technology Managed Services to E.S. Williams & Associates Inc. (ESW) at a monthly cost of up to $55 per user and $220 per server (exclusive of taxes) for a two-year term effective January 2, 2020, with up to three (3) additional one-year extensions, be approved. CARRIED

C-130-19 THAT coincident with the adoption of the Streets Bylaw No. 980, 2019, there be educational materials developed and distributed that highlight the various aspects of the bylaw – such as alternative modes of transportation, parking regulations and the types of permits available – and that such information also note the benefits of the Bylaw.
