Section 49.2 prohibition on moving signs
I am the owner of property adjacent to the Casino. My civic address is 1700 Island Highway and my family has owned and farmed this land since 1922.
There is a residence on this property within sight of the casino building as well as other buildings related to our farm operation.
I will reiterate my strenuous objection to signage generally but particularly to the installation of moving signage along this section of the Island Highway.
I have previously objected to light pollution caused by the casino dating back to when it first opened its doors. The corporate owners have likely forgotten that a number of costly changes were then needed so lighting would conform to the town’s bylaws.
Once again, council is being asked to override what were well thought out limits on signage and lighting in this area. I sincerely ask that option “ d " be chosen , that is , the refusal of the requested variance.
In support of my position, I call upon council to consider the distractions already in place on what has become a most unlovely strip of commercial sprawl. The casino building is visible from almost a kilometer away. It needs no further advertising of its ( in my opinion) odious presence.
Were the requested signs to be visible from the homes of the mayor and council I am certain this matter would never have come to a hearing.
