1. CALL TO ORDER
Councillor Rogers called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.
2. WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
a) Selection of Chair and Vice-Chair
Councillor Rogers welcomed new and re-appointed members.
The Chair and Vice-Chair were selected for the Parks, Recreation, and Environment Advisory Committee.

7. BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
a) South Vancouver Island Nature Trails Society Presentation
D. Cammiade, Executive Director, South Vancouver Island Nature Trails Society, gave a presentation to the Committee noting the Society is actively advocating for accessibility to nature for all ages and abilities.
The Society is working to formally connect, upgrade and authorize existing trails in our region from Sidney to Sooke, specifically:
- maintaining existing trails in the region;
- working with the community;
- providing opportunities for a connection to nature and recreation;
- creating green transportation options;
- building high quality trails with sustainable products;
- replanting and use of local natural materials; and
- installation of educational signage.
b) Bike Skills Area at View Royal Park – Community Consultations for 2018
Councillor Rogers noted there will be community engagement for the planning of a bike skills area at View Royal Park.
c) Native Pollinators Workshop Feedback
The Committee discussed the native pollinators workshop noting various projects that are ongoing. The goal of these workshops is to educate land owners and citizens on how they can contribute to keeping native plants growing, insects and plants that work together and preservation of the environment.

8.1 STAFF REPORTS
a) View Royal Park Playground Update
The Parks Supervisor updated the Committee regarding the new playground equipment at View Royal Park. He noted that it is well used, feedback has been positive, and paving work to complete the project is weather dependent.
b) Centennial Park Playground Update
The Parks Supervisor noted the request for proposals for playground equipment at Centennial Park includes slides, swings and a zip line.

a) Parks Map Design, Signage and Branding
The Committee discussed Council’s approval for funding of park signage in 2018. The pilot project will commence in Portage Park which will serve as a model for the other two future potential park installations.
Committee members will research ideas for signage and bring back ideas to a future Parks, Recreation and Environment Advisory meeting.
