Bylaw No 817, 2011 Being A Bylaw Relating to The Rates for the Collection And Disposal of Residential Garbage and Household Food Waste
RECOMMENDATION:
TO provide first three readings to Bylaw No 817, 2011
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER’S COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation.
BACKGROUND:
In 2011, the garbage user fees were not increased from the 2010 rate of $133.35 per dwelling unit.
An increase is required for 2012. The recommended rate per dwelling unit is $136.00 per dwelling unit.
The garbage user fee covers the Towns cost for the garbage collection contract, the tipping fees to dispose of the garbage and a 15% administration fee.
The increase to the 2012 rate is $2.65 per dwelling unit or a 2% increase.
BUDGET IMPLICATIONS:
The 2011 budget for the Towns garbage collection and disposal service was $318,940.
The estimated 2012 budget for the cost of garbage collection and disposal is $331,079.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Collection | $ 177,895 |
| Disposal | 105,000 |
| Misc supplies | 5,000 |
| 15% Administration Fee | 43,184 |
With the number of users of the service, we require a garbage user fee of $136.00 per dwelling unit to collect enough revenue to cover the Towns cost of garbage collection and disposal.
RECOMMENDATION:
TO provide first three readings to Bylaw No 817, 2011
