Development Variance Permit No. 2020/01 - 287 Pallisier Avenue

Council reviewed a variance request to reduce the required parking for a large daycare operating on the heritage church site by allocating the existing on-site parking spaces.

"Council members (Mattson, Rogers) expressed skepticism that the reduced requirement would prevent parents from parking on the narrow street (Palliser Avenue/Stewart Avenue) during drop-off/pickup, citing safety concerns due to the lack of sidewalks. Staff clarified that three spaces were required for the daycare use, but nine existed on site, exceeding staff parking needs. Council requested the applicant clarify parking logistics and proposed signage to better manage drop-off traffic."
