Community Climate Action Strategy - Public Engagement Summary and Greenhouse Gas Targets

Council endorsed ambitious new community greenhouse gas reduction targets: 45% reduction by 2030 and 100% reduction (net zero) by 2050, consistent with international climate goals.

"Council acknowledged the ambitious nature of the targets and the significant community changes required, noting that reaching net zero would necessitate provincial support and changes to buildings and transportation. Staff clarified that achieving the goal via carbon offsets would cost approximately $1.8 million annually, making actual reductions preferable."
Formal MotionPassed
