Council voted not to award the $105,000 Helmcken sidewalk replacement contract, opting instead to remove the project from the five-year plan and prioritize the funds for other capital needs.
"The Director of Engineering recommended canceling the project to replace the sidewalk between Eagle Creek and Aspire, despite having received a reasonable quote from Unitii Corporation. Staff argued the existing sidewalk was in good condition and the $105,000 net GST could be better used for projects elsewhere, particularly on roads lacking sidewalks. Council agreed, prioritizing fiscal responsibility and reallocation of capital funds."
