Full Recording2021 Grants in Aid
Council reviewed and approved $69,350 for 10 grants, temporarily waiving the Grants in Aid funding limitation policy due to the financial context of the Casino revenue disruption.
"The debate centered on overriding the policy limit (which would have capped funding significantly lower) and addressing repeat requests, notably the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre and the View Royal Reading Centre. Council agreed to fund the Sexual Assault Centre one last time with a clear letter stating future requests would be denied, as it is a provincial responsibility. The Reading Centre funding was approved at $30,000 (below their request) but included a strong letter noting disappointment over the lack of communication regarding their new lease. Funding for Peninsula Streams was approved at $7,500 for the Beach Nourishment Project only."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT the Committee recommend to Council that the following 2021 Grants in Aid be approved by waiving the funding amount limitation in Policy No. 1600-012 (Grants in Aid) for 2021 only: Crisis Intervention and Public Information Society of Greater Victoria - $1,000; Greater Victoria BMX Society - $500; Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association - $23,550, contingent on confirmation of fee per crossing guard in 2019, 2020 and 2021; Juan de Fuca Senior Citizens Association - $2,300; Peninsula Streams Society (Portage Inlet Beach Nourishment Project) - $7,500; The Bike Victoria Society - $500; Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission - $1,000; Victoria Sexual Assault Centre - $2,000; View Royal Reading Centre - $30,000; Wounded Warrior Run BC - $1,000; AND THAT the 2021-2025 Financial Plan include the total of $69,350 for grants in aid."
