Council supported moving forward with a plan to set a maximum speed limit of 30 km/hr on all residential streets in View Royal.
"Director Leung presented options for speed reduction, noting that a pedestrian hit at 30 km/hr has a 90% chance of surviving vs. 20% at 50 km/hr. Council strongly favored Option #1: a blanket reduction to 30 km/hr on all residential streets (no center line) for consistency and staff resource savings. This approach would be implemented using "Gateway Speed Zones" to minimize sign pollution. The Island Highway segment would be reduced to 40 km/hr. Council requested a project summary for future budget consideration."
