Development Permit Application 2022/09 - 1681 Island Highway

Council approved the renovation plans for the former Burger King site, contingent on staff and the architect improving the appearance of the building's east side.

"Council debated the aesthetic impact of the proposed design, particularly the 'blank' east elevation wall facing nearby residential units. Councillor Rogers requested further architectural refinement to break up the monotonous wall surface. The architect confirmed latitude to introduce similar materials for visual interest. The final approval was conditioned on staff working with the applicant on these refinements prior to permit issuance."
Formal MotionPassed
"THAT Development Permit Application 2022/09 be approved as per the report dated February 8, 2024 from the Senior Planner titled "Development Permit Application 2022/09 - 1681 Island Highway"; AND THAT staff work with the applicant for further refinements to the east elevation of the building prior to the issuance of the development permit."
