RE: Monthly Policing Report – January 2013

Attached is your monthly policing report for the month of January 2013. The West Shore RCMP Detachment received two hundred and thirteen (213) calls for service in your community during that time. The attached table provides a snapshot of the various police occurrences for the month.

Overall calls for service for the month of January have increased by 14 percent overall, when compared to the same period in the previous year. Of note, is the continuing issue of thefts from vehicles throughout the West Shore area (property crime). We have been utilizing a bait car which has been beneficial in apprehending a prolific offender. We also have a project that we have started with our Street Crime Unit to target areas of identified by our Crime Analyst. One of our newest members, Cst. Skulmoski, recently graduated from training is completing a project that will target thefts from vehicles. It has a prevention and education component, and he will be making direct contact with various community residents completing his project.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Auxiliary Constable program in the R.C.M.P. The Force wanted to commemorate this special occasion to acknowledge the work of these volunteers. A commemorative coin is going to be presented to every Auxiliary Constable across the country. A message went out to all of the Auxiliary Constables for those wanting to assist in the design. One of West Shore's own, Auxiliary Constable Trevor Absolon submitted a design and from the many submissions across the country, his design was chosen.

For your information, please find enclosed copies of the following reports for the month of January 2013.

Sincerely,

Inspector Kevin VIOLOT
