The West Shore Detachment continues to be busy. On November 11th members of the West Shore Detachment attended the Remembrance Day Services in both Langford and Metchosin.
The bait car program is continuing and shows success. Our Street Crime Unit has acquired a Divisional Bait Car that they manage; the car is placed in different areas within the community with items visible that are often of interest to thieves. An activation occurred this month when the vehicle was parked in Langford. The investigation revealed a prolific offender was responsible. Regional Crime Unit assisted with the follow up investigation and executed a search warrant at a residence in Langford. The items stolen from the Bait car, and other stolen items from other offences, were recovered. The eighteen year old male is facing numerous charges. Theft of vehicles seems to be moving to smaller organized groups and vehicles are being taken for their steel- ie catalytic converters and will likely continue.
Other files of note were:
- Langford: Sooke RCMP were investigating a man brandishing a handgun and threatening people who the police believe had drug debts. The vehicle the suspects were driving was located in Langford. West Shore members interacted with the residents and could not locate the handgun or the persons described in the Sooke investigation.
- Colwood: A garage fire was found to contain medically licensed marihuana grow operation. The fire was accidental and related to the grow operation.
- Highlands: A 23yr old female died suddenly of a suspected heroin overdose.
- View Royal: The Youth Detention Centre required police assistance one evening when some inmates received contraband and secured themselves away from their guards. Police attended, but the guards were able to gain control of the youth without police intervention.
- Colwood: A woman was found injured on Wishart Rd late one night and was believed to be the victim of a hit and run collision. The woman was taken to hospital and treated. The investigation could not substantiate any vehicle was involved.
