"SCHEDULE A"

COMMUNITY GARDENS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Plot: One Garden Plot will be assigned to one Town of View Royal residential address. If there are vacant plots a resident can request an additional plot, with a maximum of 2 plots for one resident. The use of the plot is for growing plants and vegetables in the spirit of community gardening. Please note that the Plot is for recreational use only and is not intended for commercial enterprise whatsoever.

  2. Term: Three years, after which plots will be assigned according to the waitlist. Plots must not be traded or sublet without the permission of the Program Coordinator. If the waitlist does not fill all available plots a lottery-style selection will determine who is awarded an additional 3 year term.

  3. Fee: An annual fee of $20 per plot will be collected for the purpose of future Community Garden development. Payment of Fee is due by January 31 of each year; failure to make payment by February 28 will result in forfeiture of Garden Plot.

  4. Use of Plot: It is expected that once a plot has been awarded that active plantings will take place and maintenance of the plot will begin. If plots appear neglected or untidy it may result in the loss of the plot allocation. All gardeners will be given one written warning (email) prior to plot forfeiture.

  5. Maintenance: Each gardener is responsible for her or his plot, which includes keeping plot neat, weed free and tidy; immediate area around plot free of obstructions; bringing composting to designated collecting area; watering plants; removing any garbage from garden area.

  6. Gardening Hours: The Community Garden will be open for your use and enjoyment from 8.00 am until 8:00 pm 7 days a week. Every gardener is obliged to adhere and comply with all Town of View Royal Bylaws, including but not limited to the Noise Bylaw and Unsightly Premises Bylaw.

  7. Fencing: Each gardener is encouraged to put-up reasonable and appropriate sized screening around their plot until such time as the Town installs permanent fencing around entire garden area.

  8. Tools: The Town will make available the following basic tools free of charge: hose, wheel-barrel, and compost bin. Borrowed tools must be cleaned and returned to the storage shed. Tools are not to be removed from the Community Garden.

  9. Watering and Irrigation: The Town will provide at no additional cost to the gardener a continuous water supply during gardening hours.

  10. Organic Gardening: No chemical pesticides are to be used on the Community Garden.

  11. Waste and composting: It is preferred that gardeners compost on their plots to enhance soil fertility. For plants not easily composted or weeds a compost bin will be provided.

  12. End of Season: All weeds and plants on plots must be removed or composted other than perennial flowers and herbs and the garden bed tidied and prepared for the winter season.

Any questions or concerns can be addressed to the Community Garden Program Coordinator at engineering@viewroyal.ca or by phone at 250-479-6800.
