CRAIGFLOWER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT UPDATE MAY 2014

PURPOSE OF REPORT:
To update the Committee on the current status of the Craigflower Bridge Replacement Project.

PROJECT INFORMATION:
Project Schedule:
The removal of the temporary work bridge is complete, as well as the railings and lighting on the west side of the bridge. Admirals Road, from Island Highway in View Royal to Gorge Road in Saanich, was opened to all traffic on Friday, May 2nd in the mid-afternoon. Currently, the contractor is repairing minor deficiencies that have been identified to date. This includes cleanup and repair of the parking lot of the Craigflower Manor which was used as a lay-down area and access for the temporary work bridge during construction.
Don Mann Excavating has requested Substantial Completion for the project. The contract administrator and staff are currently carrying out final inspections of the work.
Construction Progress:
- Bridge: construction complete; temporary work bridge removal complete; line painting of deck complete; concrete deck sealed; expansion joint covers on the deck and sidewalks/bike lanes installed; electrical contractor currently working on cladding underneath the bridge for BC Hydro ducting; minor deficiencies currently being repaired; staff working on design for kick plate along bottom of railing; staff working on schemes for bridge up-lighting;
- South Approach: contractor currently installing rip rap on west bank of bridge and riparian plantings on banks on both sides of bridge, as well as cleaning up, repairing and paving parking lot area of the Craigflower Manor parking lot and repairing minor deficiencies;
- North Approach: currently installing riparian plantings on west bank as well as repairing minor deficiencies;
- Don Mann Excavating currently at 99% completion of original scope.
