Quarterly summary of community liaison follow-ups with victims of property crime to gauge satisfaction with police service.
PRIME FOLLOW-UP QUARTERLY REPORT
October 1 to December 31, 2013
January 6, 2014.
Rick Stiebel is a City of Langford employee who works as a Communications Liaison for the West Shore RCMP two days a week, on Mondays and Fridays, providing his services are not required by the City of Langford on those days.
M/E Stiebel goes through all of the PRIME files twice a week, reading every synopsis for break and enters, mischief, theft from vehicle, theft other, and unspecified assistance files. He conducted 82 follow-ups between October 1 and December 31, 2013. The average number of calls made is generally between five and seven a week. The comments received during telephone conversations are entered on PRIME under Community Liaison Contacts as text page additions.
There was one complaint with service regarding file # 2013-15675. (see text page addition) There were minor concerns with response regarding file 2013-15164. The overwhelming majority of comments passed along are positive. About a third of those contacted indicate they were “very pleased”- as opposed to satisfied. The comments regarding the level of service provided by the Members for files # 2013-14672 and 15176 are examples of people going out of their way to praise the Member’s efforts and interaction regarding those specific files.
Stiebel also conducts CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) assessments upon request for Langford residents and businesses only. Five (two) CPTED assessments were conducted between October 1 and December 31 for files 2013- 13843 and 14513.
He assists with media queries, media releases and submits columns titled “West Shore Serge” to the Goldstream News Gazette and the Metchosin Muse that provide public safety information, or highlight the positive work by Members at the West Shore Detachment. He conducted research with five other Detachments in November to help compile a report on procedures for dealing with requests for permits for parades and special events such as Rock the Shores, and how other detachments allocate overtime and staffing for such events. Stiebel also photographs events for the Community Policing Section and the West Shore Detachment, such as the Remembrance Day ceremony in November.
Stiebel attends Langford Protective Services Committee meetings, and serves as secretary for Community Policing Advisory Committee meetings, where he records and distributes the minutes. He also attends Youth Collective meetings.
