RE: Tree Removal Permit Application – 2 Ethos Place – Town of View Royal

Thank you kindly for your email of July 31.

  1. An application was made for the removal of three Douglas Fir trees at 2 Ethos Place, View Royal on January 28, 2014. Approval for the removal of one tree was granted on February 20, 2014. Two trees at the front of the property were not approved for removal.

  2. Following the receipt of two Arborists' reports indicating the two trees at the front of the property should be removed, a further application was made on May 9, 2014

  3. Mr .Dave Podmoroff, Parks Supervisor, kindly visited the site on June 26, 2014 and indicated the trees should be removed but, because of their size and species, an application under the Tree Protection By-Law before Town Council would be required.

  4. An email from our Insurance company dated July 15, 2014 indicates that in the event View Royal Town Council denies our application for removal of these two trees, their underwriters stating “if the Town of View Royal does not allow the trees to be removed they will put exclusions on the policy for falling objects. (A copy of this email is attached)

  5. We are willing to replant trees at Portage Park (preferably Japanese Maples) in a quantity and location provided to us by Mr. Podmoroff.

  6. We respectfully urge the Council to render its favourable decision as these trees are posing a significant threat to the property and adjacent area and should be removed without further delay. If necessary, we will be pleased to appear before Council on September 2, 2014 in support of this application.

Sincerely,

Barbara (Lynn) Ross Paul Jordan
