Mayor's Report for the Month of October 2014

This report is intended as a quick update, with a more detailed report to be provided quarterly. The West Shore RCMP Detachment received 1563 calls for service in October. During this same period in 2013 there were 1578 total calls for service in October. Distribution of these calls is itemized for your reference below:

Calls for Service Statistics October 2013/2014

During the month of October the Community Policing Section attended the Community Information Meeting in Metchosin on October 8, 2014 to provide information on safety in the home and vehicles and how to make your residence secure. Cst Harrisson attended the Community Information Meeting in Metchosin on October 15, 2014 and spoke on how not to be a victim to scams; both meetings were well attended by the community and the residents had lots of great questions.

Community Policing Section also spent the month going to several schools in the West Shore area to deliver information to the students about Halloween Safety and participation in the Terry Fox run which was held across the country this year on Friday September 14.

A free information session was held at the Isabelle Reader Theatre on Thursday, October 23^rd on Cyber Safety; Working and Playing Safely Online. Attendees received information on how to spot and avoid online scams, viruses and phishing attempts and presentations were put on by Alan Perry from C-FAX 1070 Tech Talk and Darren Laur; Social Media Expert on Personal Protection Systems Inc. Best Shredding was also onsite to provide shredding services for a donation going to the Goldstream Food Bank.

Some files of note for the month of October:

Although several members adjusted their schedule to work the night in order to have a heavier police presence for Halloween very few incidents were reported and no major events occurred.

• Metchosin: A report of a theft of an LG 500 Dynapac Compactor valued at $8000 stolen from a construction site overnight. Very heavy equipment it would have taken several people to lift.
• Langford: A report of a lone male outside Tim Horton's taking his clothes off and dancing by the windows. When the suspect was located he admitted to consuming GHB.
• Langford: A complainant reported returning home to find someone had attempted to kick in his front door. Frame and lock were damaged but no entry gained.
• Colwood: Complainant reported that someone tried to break and enter into his business; three prominent pry marks were located on the door by the lock mechanism but no entry gained.
• View Royal: The Integrated Road Services Unit impaired driving road block resulted in a vehicle fleeing police, members located the vehicle at a housing complex, suspect turned the vehicle around, drove towards the police, ramming the front of the police car. Suspect attempted to flee again but hit a tree and fled on foot. Suspect was apprehended after jumping into a nearby creek. Packaged cocaine, heroin meth and $490 cash located on search.
• View Royal: A show home was broken into and a washer, dryer, fridge, stove, large mirror and picture were stolen as well the railings and some walls were damaged.
• Langford: A report of a fight in the parking lot on Leigh Road, a loud bang was heard and possible knives involved. A light blue Toyota, no license plate, fled the scene. Upon attendance all was quiet and no one answered the door.
